Dammam: Saudi Arabia 1300hrs 7th August 2005
.Well the King of Saudi Arabia died last week. Long live the King!
With 5000 Saudi Princes to pick from succession is not a problem or is it? Could be a lot of fighting goes on over who becomes next king..King Abdullah, who replaced the recently demised King Fahd.. over whose bridge I drive every day between Saudi and Bahrain is 85 and not in the best of health. Perhaps the Saudis need to have someone a bit younger
The U.S. embassy has advised all U.S. citizens to be alert for act of terrorism in the Kingdom. Duh! As they would say in the States.
The temperature is now scratching the 50 deg Celsius and the weather is a constant sandstorm. Sand gets everywhere and car engines last about 3 years before they wear out from sand blasting in the cylinders
There is talk that Saudi Arabia might open cinemas next year for kids.
This is another little thing that you cannot do in the Kindgom.. Go to the pictures. It is forbidden.. So most Saudis who can come to Bahrain where Madagascar is showing.
This does nothing but fill up the King Fahd causeway with thousands of Saudi cars with loads of Kids all needing their passports stamped AND CAUSING AN UNGODLY QUEUE EVERY NIGHT WHEN I GO HOME.. can’t wait for the schools to go back in September.
Just you can get a feel for the trip I do daily here is a shot of the King Fahd Causeway. It is 27km long and it is a really cool trip across a beautiful azure Arabian Gulf where, if you are lucky you will see dolphins swimming in the warm waters but more often than not you will see Saudi gunboats..
Had one of my staff found with 2 Philippine ladies in his room, inside our company managed accommodation.. and they weren’t his sisters. He says they were escaped maids who had been mistreated. He can get flogged for this if the police press charges and will get fired for disobeying company rules about female visitors.
Can’t imagine Brian will be applying now for that job I offered him.
Couple of other employees got flogged for visiting ladies and for drinking illicit booze in the Kingdom. It is certainly not the place young vigorous dynamic men like Brian.. Or if you are smart you move to Bahrain and commute.
However, my 200+ single status employees cannot do that and can’t even go to Bahrain as we hold their passports. Another Saudi Labour law requirement. So they have to make their own fun.
